RECALL: Check Your Pillsbury Rolls for Glass

General Mills is recalling more than 735,000 frozen Pillsbury bread rolls distributed across 19 states over concerns the products may contain glass fragments — check your freezer now if you purchased Pillsbury Hard Roll Dough or Kaiser Roll Dough with "Better if Used by" dates in October 2026.

The FDA classified the recall as Class II on July 13, meaning the agency has determined that consuming the affected product could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences — but glass contamination in food carries obvious risks of cuts to the mouth, throat, and digestive tract that make immediate action prudent regardless of the classification. The recall covers two specific product types. The first is Pillsbury Hard Roll Dough: 3,080 cases with 180 units per case, carrying "Better if Used by" dates of October 12 or 13, 2026, and lot numbers 11JUN6JL or 12JUN6JL. The second is Pillsbury Kaiser Roll Dough: 1,260 cases with 144 units per case, carrying a "Better if Used by" date of October 13, 2026, and lot number 12JUN6JL. Combined, the recall covers approximately 735,840 individual rolls.

"Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should not consume it and should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund." — General Mills recall guidance

The affected products were distributed to retail stores in Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. Consumers who purchased these products should not consume them and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. General Mills has not yet publicly identified the source of the potential glass contamination or explained how it may have entered the production process. The company typically releases additional details through the FDA recall portal as investigations progress.

The Pillsbury recall comes amid several other active food safety alerts. The FDA recently upgraded a separate recall of certain Utz Quality Foods potato chips to its highest risk classification after potential salmonella contamination — a Class I recall, meaning the agency considers the contamination capable of causing serious adverse health consequences or death. Consumers with multiple items currently under recall are encouraged to check the FDA's recall database at FDA.gov for a complete and current list of affected products and lot numbers.

To confirm whether your product is affected: look for "Hard Roll Dough" or "Kaiser Roll Dough" under the Pillsbury brand. Check the "Better if Used by" date — affected dates are October 12 or 13, 2026. Check the lot number printed on the packaging — affected lot numbers are 11JUN6JL and 12JUN6JL. If your product matches these criteria, do not consume it. Return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or contact General Mills consumer relations at 1-800-775-4777.

Glass contamination in food is not a minor safety concern, FDA classification notwithstanding. A fragment of glass in a dinner roll can cause real harm — cuts to the mouth, damage to the throat, or worse if swallowed. If you have these products in your freezer, take thirty seconds right now to check the lot number and date. If they match, throw them away or return them. General Mills will refund your money. That thirty seconds is worth it.
